Book Review #9

Very rarely do I read books from the horror genre, but I was led to this book from a twitter source and I have one word: WOW!!!! Night Life by author Matthew Quinn Martin was not a disappointment. Set in New Harbor, Connecticut, a college town. The story involves a legendary bloodthirsty creature, who has been hunting and preying on the people in the  town below. A group of strangers band together and are on a quest to hunt this creature and take him down.

Vietnam vet Gil Gibbons, a homeless mas has a close encounter with this creature. He thinks he is a prophet with a message he wants to spread to the people of New Harbor. Gil meets Jack Johnson, a loner who is on the hunt for a vampire who has killed his girlfriend a few years ago. Gil appoints Jack to become “The One” to bring down this vampire creature. then comes along Beth Becker, and the three of them team up and take a journey to hunt down the night angel vampire.

This book is riveting, dark and will keep you at the edge of your seat until the very end. it’s a slow build but it sucks you in and then gains momentum as the three are on the hunt. I like the characters in this book, and they all come from trouble backgrounds. you cant do anything but cheer them on as they go deep into New Harbor to get the vampire. There is darkness in this story, humor and I love the interaction between the three. You know its a good book when the hair on the back of your neck and arms stand up. Night Life is a great book to read if you like to get a good scare on. Great read.
