had not heard of Gillian Flynn before, but as a fan of Blake Crouch, C.J. Box, Steven King, and other horror/suspense authors, I discovered Dark Places. Gillian’s description of characters, especially Libby and Ben, is very vivid and creates strong, deep, and complex individuals. The murders are so vivid it is almost disturbing (and this is coming from a seasoned horror fanatic!). Flynn creates so much tension on the day of the murders, there are several different fronts of the story, seemingly speeding toward a collision with each other on that fateful January morning. There is so much tragedy going on and all the while knowing that these people will be so gruesomely murdered in mere hours is heart-breaking. There are so many twists, all masterfully written, that once you settle on a likely suspect, they soon become eliminated, and 2 or 3 more take their place as the possible killer. This book is one hell of a roller coaster ride! I actually did end up guessing who the killer was about 3/4 through the story, and though I was correct, it was not exactly for the reason I had guessed. I would highly recommend this book to all my fellow horror/murder mystery buffs! It’s well worth $9.99!
